Business > Charities > Charity formation

We offer our charity clients a full formation service. Any entity with a constitution that allows its assets to be used for charitable purposes is classed as a charity in English law, regardless of how that charity is constituted.

However, most charities will be set up either as trusts, companies or unincorporated associations, with the final legal form dependent upon the activities that the charity will undertake.

We will advise on the most appropriate structure by looking at the charity's aims and activities, and can deal with the formalities of registration of an organisation with the Charity Commission on your behalf.

Once established, a charity's objects (as outlined in its constitution) can only be altered in very limited circumstances. We will work closely with you at the outset to ensure that your charity's objects will be appropriate to its objectives and the manner in which it intends to achieve them.
